Bias
When talking about Artificial Intelligence (AI), the term bias describes a situation where an AI system makes decisions or predictions that unfairly favor one group over another.
This can occur if the data used to train the AI system contains biased or unrepresentative examples. For instance, if a job recruitment AI system is trained on data from a company that has historically hired more men than women, the system might unfairly favor male candidates in its selections. Bias in AI can have serious consequences, including reinforcing societal inequalities and unfairness. It's a major concern in the field, and much work is done to identify and mitigate these biases to ensure that AI systems are fair and equitable.
In essence, "bias" in AI refers to the potential for systems to develop unfair preferences based on skewed or unrepresentative training data, leading to unjust decision-making.
